Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern (IMH27051)
David DiVirgilio
David graduated from the University of Florida with a Bachelor’s in Finance. After a handful of different work experiences in the social services field, he went back to school to earn a Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at UCF.
During his time as a counselor, David has worked with clients who have experienced depression, anxiety, life transitions, chronic illness, emotional dysregulation, adjustment concerns, and interpersonal, marital and family issues.
David's goal is to give you the space to go deeper and ultimately become more comfortable with yourself. He practices from a person centered foundation, believing that the client is the expert on their own experience. His goal is to consistently provide an environment in the counseling room that can help you expand awareness of your thoughts, emotions and experiences. David resonates with the metaphor of the counseling process being like the growth of a plant. People, like seeds, have the innate potential for growth and counselors, like a gardener, aim to provide conditions like empathy and non-judgement to help facilitate that growth. Along with his largely person centered approach, David loves to incorporate discussions of wellness and self care practices that can be therapeutic during the other 167 hours of your week.
Outside of the office David loves to play basketball, be in nature, eat good food, listen to good music and have slow evenings with friends and family. He also enjoys biking, walking, and exploring Sanford with his wife.
